Mornington Shire Council in the Gulf of Carpentaria will use an information day to inform residents about the risks of asbestos.
The North-West Hospital and Health Service says an abandoned hospital building containing asbestos on Mornington Island poses a low risk to a remote Indigenous community.
Workers will arrive on Mornington Island in Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria this week to remove an old hospital building found to contain asbestos.
The building was abandoned many years ago and has been a makeshift playground for two generations of children in the remote Indigenous community.
