NAIDOC DELIVERS

Back

Incredible Country muso Kirsty Lee Akers performed on July 6th as part of NAIDOC 2017 – Our Language Matters.
The performance (a first in the remote region since Yothu Yindi toured to Gununa in the 1980’s), followed the well respected Mornington Shire Shire NAIDOC Awards.

The awards provide a platform to recognise the positive contributions and deadly achievements of our local indigenous residents.
Recipients are involved in the community (in some way) and are exceptional – keeping culture strong while helping others.
Well done to Bevan Chong, winning the Mornington Island Person of the Year and to Kirsty Lee Akers for including the region as part of her national tour !!!
A big congratulations to the other award winners – David Medwin Jnr., Connor Rogers, Tali Tabaui and Glenys Roberts !!!
