Mornington Shire Council is excited to present its Annual Operating Plan 2020/2021, the first delivered by our newly elected Council.

The Annual Operating Plan outlines Council’s resolution to deliver community priorities identified within our Five Year Corporate Plan 2018-2023, and is the foundation of our 2020/2021 Annual Budget.

Newly appointed Mornington Shire Council Mayor, Mr Kyle Yanner, is proud of the input the Elected Members have had in the development of the plan, engaged in a series of workshops throughout the planning phase. 

“Our team has worked hard to identify priorities throughout this process, and are delighted to present a plan that will deliver on capital projects and expenditure, at the same time enhancing Council’s capacity to provide services to our community, strengthening our local economy, improving health and opportunities of our people, and protect our environment” said Mayor Yanner.

“As a newly appointed Council, we have placed a strong emphasis on community services, development and local employment. Importantly, we remain committed to achieving our goal of generating revenue through our various business enterprises, at the same time seeking to create cost efficiencies across Council operations.

With an added focus on upgrading plant and equipment, we will provide our workers with the best tools in their bid to deliver exceptional services to community.”

A major key project deliverable from this Plan, will be the commencement of construction of the new Mornington Shire Council Civic Centre (Gununa Town Centre). This exciting project will deliver a new ‘smart’ Council administration building & Chambers in the town centre, consolidating all Council operations into one facility.

The building will include a one-stop reception, visitor information centre, Council chambers, offices and open plan office for 23 staff (in stage 1), a CCTV control room/security base, and a disaster management centre.

Council has committed over half a million dollars towards the project over two years, with a massive $5.3M in grant funding received to date through the Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs.

As well as improving Council service delivery, this project will create 17.75 full time jobs for the community both during and post construction, and is designed to offer exciting open spaces and family activity areas.
