Goobalathaldin Knowledge Centre

The Goobalathaldin Knowledge Centre is Mornington Island’s new home for learning, creativity, culture, and digital connection. Officially opened on Tuesday 23 September 2025, the centre stands as a major milestone for the community — a place where culture meets technology, and where people of all ages can access tools for education, employment, creativity, and connection.

Named in honour of the late Dick Roughsey (Goobalathaldin) — renowned Lardil artist, author, cultural leader, and the first Aboriginal author to publish an autobiography — the centre carries forward his legacy of storytelling, knowledge sharing, and community pride. Goobalathaldin, meaning “the ocean, dancing”, reflects both his tribal name and the spirit of the centre as a living, moving place of culture and learning.
