The Role:
The HR Manager reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is part of a small senior leadership team supporting Council’s operations. This hands-on role is supported by a HR Officer and coordinates all aspects of our employment processes.
*This position is residential based on Mornington Island
Key responsibilities:
- Development and implementation of HR policies and procedures, including ongoing compliance, review and employee awareness activities.
- Advise and support leaders in managing the performance and development of their employees.
- Coordinate performance review, remuneration review and other cyclical activities.
- Recruitment of senior roles and oversight of all recruitment activities. Provide creative ideas for attraction and retention.
- Develop and produce HR reporting to support Council decisions.
- Participate in strategic planning activities, advising on legislative landscape, workforce planning, skills development initiatives and other key factors.
- Manage the systems and processes to support leave management, employee travel entitlements, training and development and employee records management.
Skills and experience
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior Human Resources role.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation and Awards, and their interpretation and application.
- Experience working and living in remote localities.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential and previous experience working in a local government will be highly regarded.
